O Medium funciona como um “colecionador de posts”, que separa tudo que o usuário posta por temas. Quanto mais usuários aprovarem o conteúdo postado, mais destaque ele recebe dentro da rede social. O diferencial de outras redes sociais é que o conteúdo é todo rankeado por qualidade, ao invés de quantidade. Então, o conteúdo em destaque sempre será o mais aprovado pelos usuários. Já o Branch funciona como uma forma de ampliar a interação entre os usuários do Twitter. Você pode convidar outros usuários para uma conversa sem limite de caracteres, mais ou menos como um fórum. Segundo Josh Miller, diretor de produto do Branch, a ideia é dar destaque aos diálogos dos usuários, ao invés dos posts e tweets individuais, como se fosse uma “mesa de bar no Twitter”.
