O Google mudou seu logotipo para homenagear o inventor brasileiro Santos Dumont, que nesta sexta-feira completaria 139 anos. O doodle mostra um desenho do mineiro ao lado de sua mais importante invenção: o 14-Bis, avião híbrido testado na França em 1906.
O mineiro é responsável por projectar, construir e pilotar o primeiro balão dirígivel com motor a gasolina. Apesar de os brasileiros considerarem Santos Dumont como o responsável pelo primeiro voo em um avião, na maior parte do mundo o crédito à invenção é dado aos irmãos Wright.

O Google costuma comemorar datas importantes para a humanidade, como aniversários de invenções e personalidades ligadas à cultura e à política, por exemplo, com customizações do logo na página inicial do site de buscas. O primeiro doodle surgiu em 1998, quando os fundadores do Google criaram um logotipo especial para informar aos usuários do site que eles estavam participando do Burning Man, um festival de contracultura realizado anualmente nos Estados Unidos.
