Segundo o calendário definido esta semana pela Ofcom,( http://media.ofcom.org.uk/2012/07/24/ofcom-unveils-plans-for-4g-auction-of-the-airwaves/) em 2012 serão realizados alguns processos, mas as licitações só vão acontecer em 2013, algo que a entidade considera “dentro do calendário”, permitindo que as operadoras possam iniciar serviços ainda no próximo ano.

A Ofcom já fez saber que desta vez vai disponibilizar para licitação o equivalente a três quartos do atual espectro móvel, mais 80% do que no leilão do 3G nas frequências de 800 MHz e 2,6 GHz. Um dos lotes em licitação tem a obrigação de cobrir 95% da população até 2017.
E o regulador quer ver pelo menos quatro serviços de 4G no mercado, o que espera que venha a estimular a concorrência. Por isso reservou uma faixa do espectro para um quarto operador, que poderá ser a Hutchinson 3G ou um novo player. Os três já no mercado com uma presença mais abrangente são a Everything Everywhere, que junta a Orange e a T-Mobile, a Vodafone e a Telefonica, dona da O2.
