The Brazilian market is still warm and tablets showed significant numbers of more than 370,000 units sold in the first quarter of 2012, according to a study by IDC Brazil, a leader in market intelligence, advisory services and conferences with the industries of Information Technology and Telecommunications. It is expected that by the end of this year are sold 2.5 million tablets, which means a growth of over 200% from 800,000 units sold in 2011. In the year 2013, the mark must reach about 4 million units.
Of the total number of devices sold in the first three months of 2012, 61% have operating system Android. At the beginning of last year, Android had 43% market share in appliances of twenty, had a price below $ 1000. With the increase of Chinese-made devices, more than half of the tablets with Android already has this price range. "It is still early to tell, but it is possible that these products frustrate the user experience expected by the consumer, since most of these low-cost devices have limited technical specifications," says Attila Belavary, market analyst at IDC Brazil.
Also according to the IDC study, of more than 370,000 tablets sold, 12% were for the corporate market, which in this study involves government and education. "The public sector has already shown interest in using the product in the school environment and, in late 2012 and early 2013 provided for a delivery of 900 000 tablets to the MEC, which should further boost the numbers of this segment," adds IDC analyst.
The IDC study Brazil shows that growth rates are more accelerated than those of similar markets. "In 2011, for example, sold a tablet for every ten laptops. By the end of 2016, IDC predicts that a tablet is sold every three notebooks, "said Belavary.
On the world market, there was an increase of 134% in the first three months of this year compared to the same period last year. According to an IDC analyst, "while the iPad commitment to new specifications and the Apple brand, the participation of Android devices has increased less robust, driven by tablets with a focus on content consumption and more attractive prices."
