O rumor foi espalhado pelos sites IGN e Kotaku e segundo estes, as informações acerca das características do novo dispositivo, advêm de fonte interna (da Microsoft) e aparentemente segura.
De acordo com essa mesma fonte, a Microsoft prepara-se para anunciar a nova versão do controlador de movimento Kinect 2 (que supostamente irá ter um processador interno) e que a nova consola impedirá os proprietários de jogar jogos pré-comprados.
A futura consola da Microsoft irá começar a ser produzida ainda antes do final deste ano e vai integrará um processador baseado na série 6000 da AMD (a série atual é a 7000), segundo o site IGN. Enquanto o site Kotaku revela que a placa gráfica será “semelhante à Radeon HD 6670”, com suporte para múltiplos ecrãs, 3D de saída com resolução Full HD 1080p.
Apesar de o site Kotaku afirmar que a 720 será seis vezes mais potente que a atual consola, essa potência representara apenas um acréscimo de 20%, relativamente à nova consola Wii U da Nintendo.
