O novo dispositivo deve vir emoldurado por metal sobre um chassi plástico, estrutura que aparentemente lembrará o iPhone 3G, da Apple. O Kindle Fire original, lançado em setembro de 2011, roda sistema operacional Android, é metálico e lembra bastante o Blackberry Playbook.
